COURT SERVICES: THEFT INTERVENTION is an educational intervention service designed to reduce the rate of repeated theft or shoplifting by juveniles. The Evansville Police Department, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff Department, and the Vanderburgh County Superior Court -Juvenile Division, refer youths (age 10-18) that are arrested for “first-time” theft. Each month our Theft Intervention staff provides 20-50 juveniles with individual and group intervention services. This service is funded by a $150 client service fee.
COURT-ORDERED SCHOOL ATTENDANCE PROGRAM is a service to ensure the school attendance of middle and high school age children who are currently under “court-order” from the Vanderburgh Superior Court – Juvenile Division. Each day, participating schools notify our Director of Court Services of any school absence by a “court-ordered” child. YSB will: (1) Confirm truancy reports via personal contact; (2) Document that the truant child violated a judicial “Written Warning of Consequences”; (3) Request that a “pick-up order” be issued by the child’s Probation Officer, (4) Locate the whereabouts of the truant child and notify the appropriate law enforcement unit to pick-up and place the child in detention; (5) Provide oral testimony before a Court Detention Hearing as to why the truant child was placed in detention.
DRUG SCREENING SERVICES are provided, under contract, to the Vanderburgh County Office of Family & Children; the Vanderburgh Superior Court – Juvenile Division and other community agencies. For more information on Youth Service Bureau’s Court Services contact csmith@youthservicebureau.net
